Thea Smartt Henry / BURONFOSSE VARRON SAVAGNIN 2022

BURONFOSSE VARRON SAVAGNIN 2022

$ 55.22

Description Ripe yellow fruit, citrus, quince, elderflower and linden blossom on the nose, compact and concentrated with a touch of wax and herbal spice. Full bodied and dense on the palate, pineapple and citrus riding on fresh acidity with firm, saline minerality lurking in the background. Think Vin Jaune-lite, sprightly acidity carving through rich texture and lightly oxidative notes. Multidimensional and wondrous. Best in a larger glass with plenty of air and time. Peggy and Jean-Pascal Buronfosse left city life behind in 1999, landed in Jean-François Ganevat’s village in Rotalier, and with his guidance gradually found their way to producing some of the most quietly brilliant wines in the Jura. The Varron Savagnin is among their most compelling expressions, a massale selection from three different strains of Savagnin planted in the 1940s on red marl soils that bring ripeness, concentration and real power. 100% Savagnin, massale selection from three strains planted in the 1940s. Red marl soils, Rotalier, Jura, France. Biodynamic farming. Buronfosse work with minimal intervention across their small parcels in Rotalier, guided by the philosophy of neighbours Jean-François Ganevat and Pierre Overnoy, producing wines of extraordinary purity and a deep sense of place. 13% / 75cl
