Description Nuvo Nivo Intaba Chenin Blanc is a barrel-fermented and aged Chenin from Durbanville, a wine that sets out to balance two things that do not always coexist comfortably: brightness and drinkability on one side, texture and complexity on the other. It pulls it off. The nose is aromatic and inviting, with the quince, apple, and stone fruit character that defines Chenin at its best, given additional depth and a gentle creaminess from the barrel ageing. The palate is structured and textured without heaviness, with a freshness and acidity that keeps everything alive and the finish clean and long. A serious wine at an unserious price. Nuvo Nivo is a project built on a straightforward idea: genuinely affordable wines that still support growers farming organically and biodynamically. Fruit that might otherwise be sold off anonymously given a bit more care and a clearer identity. The wines are made by Angelo of Yo El Rey Wines in South Africa, with both intention and drinkability in equal measure. Chenin Blanc is South Africa’s most widely planted variety and arguably its greatest, capable of remarkable versatility across a range of styles. In Durbanville, where cooling Atlantic breezes from the nearby ocean temper the Cape heat, it retains the natural acidity and freshness that barrel fermentation and ageing can so easily overwhelm.
